Xiangxi UNESCO Global Geopark Museum rated as national third-level museum

The Xiangxi UNESCO Global Geopark Museum was rated as a national third-level museum at the opening ceremony of the 10th Chinese Exposition of Museums and Relevant Products and Technologies held in Hohhot of Inner Mongolia on August 23.

The museum, located in Furong Town of Yongshun County, consists of characteristic exhibition halls such as “Golden Nails”, “Red Stone Forests”, “Mineral Resources”, “Biological Ecology”, and “History and Culture”. It is a comprehensive museum that integrates functions such as collection, protection, research, exhibition, and education.


 
Over a hundred types of rocks, minerals, ancient organisms, and specimens of flora and fauna are displayed in the museum. Through technological means such as sound, electricity, light, and images, it comprehensively introduces the formation and characteristics of the karst landforms in Xiangxi, and showcases the geological landscape, ethnic cultural landscape, biodiversity, and construction and development achievements of the Xiangxi UNESCO Global Geopark from multiple perspectives.

For many years, in addition to providing exhibition and visitor experience services, the museum is committed to promoting and popularizing geological science popularization knowledge, and plays an important role in improving the scientific and cultural quality of the whole nation and meeting the science popularization needs of the public, especially young people.

The museum has successively been awarded titles such as the “National Science Popularization Education Base”, the “Science Popularization Education Base in Hunan”, the “Study Tour Base in Hunan”, and the “Youth Green Nature Education Green Camp in Hunan”.
